Today’s Spooky Adventures

Today started out being a little warmer than the previous day of chill! We started off bright and early at ReNEW SciTech, a school primarily focused on STEM in a low income neighborhood. Kim, the principal of the school, directed us to our tasks. My partner and I were assigned to re-do the bulletin boards, which took up a lot of time! Kim mentioned how most schools were rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina, but this school was still salvageable after the storm and that is what they did. The building is old and requires a little TLC. From the hallways and classrooms, one could tell that Kim and all the staff really work to make the students feel at home and loved. The teacher’s lounge had only the bare essentials with no decorations. There were even teachers coming in on a Sunday to work on their classrooms. It is crazy to think about how hard all these teachers and staff work.

After working hard, we all got Subway sandwiches with some sweet, delicious chocolate chip cookies. Yum.

After, we went to the National World War II museum. It was huge! There was so much to see and do. There were so many interactive components and chances to dig into the information. It was neat seeing some real artifacts from the war. We actually didn’t even have enough time to visit everything as there was so much to see and there were multiple buildings.

We went back to camp for dinner, where the staff of the camp generously prepared us a meal of chicken alfredo fettuccine with a caramel apple dessert. Everything was so tasty. The staff has been so welcoming and have opened their home to us, it is much appreciated and does not go without notice.

Before our ghost tour, we witnessed a wedding being celebrated in the streets of New Orleans! There was a band following a crowd of nicely dressed people. They were having the time of their lives and even had the police escort them and block off the street as needed. It was great to witness two people celebrating their wedding in style!

Lastly, we decided on a ghost tour. I was so excited! It wasn’t as scary as I thought. The man who gave us our tickets was wearing purple cowboy boots, interestingly enough. It was a tour of the French Quarter given by our tour guide, Eugenia, a kind, vibrant and lively woman. She entertained us with the actual ghost stories she had heard as a tour guide. Even ghosts that are famous, appearing on shows like American Horror Story and more! She would then inform of us of the history side. Now we will always remember these whenever we come back.

Now it’s time for bed! Chat later.
